The automotive tie rod, also known as the tie rod end or steering ball joint, plays a pivotal role in the steering system. Its primary function is to transmit the movement from the steering rack to the steering knuckle, which in turn causes the wheels to turn. The tie rod assembly consists of an inner and an outer section, together connecting the rack-and-pinion to the steering knuckle. When the driver turns the steering wheel, this assembly pushes or pulls the wheels to enable steering.
