The nozzle ring is a critical component of variable geometry turbochargers (VGT/VNT). It consists of a set of movable vanes.
By adjusting the vane angle, it controls the flow velocity and direction of exhaust gas hitting the turbine wheel. At low engine speed, narrow vane opening accelerates exhaust gas to improve low-speed response. At high speed, wider opening reduces exhaust backpressure.
It operates under extreme high temperature, so it is typically made of heat-resistant alloy steel to resist thermal fatigue and corrosion.
